Aye, kya bolti tu?

So the tag from Great Bong’s blog here via Dhananjay, and going by the rules, (which I should I guess, it’s only fair) this is what you need to do before you take it up  

1. On your blog, provide a link to this page. (http://greatbong.net/book). Embedding the above picture in your blog would be nice but not needed.

2. Then write down your top 10 Hindi movie lines or top 10 English movie lines (You can do both if you want. Only one set is required for the contest). If you cannot think of top 10, make it top 5. Cannot think of even 5? Make it top 3. No problem. Only restriction: no two lines from same movie. This done to make it fair for other movies so that they dont get swamped by Gunda or Loha or Sholay.

  So, shall we start? I think I have pretty much included all that I wanted to, but I am also sure that I might missed out some really good ones. Also, I have mixed the Hindi and the English dialogues, so we have 5 of each now!     First Bollywood. And strictly in chronological order. Here we go!   

1. Mogambo: Mogambo, Khush hua

Now who doesn’t remember this line? Mr. India happens to be the first movie I remember watching in a cinema hall, when I was a tiny 5 year old. And the mean Mogambo, the good guy Arun, the little girl Tina , and that parody-mix, all remain etched in the memory.  

2.  Simran : Tum meri shaadi mein aaoge na?     Raj : Nahin, Simran. Main tumhari shaadi mein nahin aaunga

DDLJ. Sigh. This movie probably gets all the credit for making me a die-hard romantic. Mush. So much mush. And then some more. Even today, when I watch this scene, as Raj walks away after saying the dialogue, and the starting notes of ‘Na jaane mere’ play in the background, I swear I am all dreamy-eyed and melting away into a mush puddle.  

3. Teja : Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai

I know, Andaaz apna apna released before DDLJ. But this happens to be my chronological order, and I watched this movie quite late. Hence. Anyway, what a movie!! OMG, you will laugh every time you watch it, and how much! Paresh Rawal as Teja was probably the funniest villain ever! I can only think of this dialogue right now, but I am sure there are many such hilarious gems we can pick from this one.  

4. Geet : Sikhni hoon main bhatinda ki, koi doubt mat rakhna dil me

 One of the newer Bollywood movies I love. In fact I would go as far as saying that Jab we met would be one of my all time favorite hindi movies, and I end up catching some part of it, every time it is aired on tv, which if you watch regular tv, should know is almost daily. The whole train sequence followed by this scene on the station is outright funny, and I think Kareena suited the role to a T.  

5. Bhope : Fa ko Fa nahi bolega toh kya La bolega

Kaminey. So much has been said about it. But it’s still less. The dark humor, and funny one liners this movie is full of are awesome. And this one in particular makes me crack up every time.    

Moving on to Hollywood. Where you would notice that my favorite dialogues are all from various mush flicks. No, I don’t think anything can be done about it. Oh, and these are in or particular order, I don’t feel like googling the release dates for each of them now.  

6. Jamie :It’s my favorite time of the day, driving you    Aurelia (in portuguese) : It’s the saddest part of my day, leaving you

Love Actually is my favorite Hollywood romantic movie. And my favorite story is the Jamie-Aurelia one. The above dialogue combined with the background music can make me cry. Literally. Damn. The Peter-Juliet-Mark story is a close second, and has a couple of awesome dialogues too, but this tag says no repeating movies,so.  

7. Kathleen : I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly. 

 Meg Ryan is awesomeness. Tom Hanks is even more awesomeness. So, if you put these two together, you cannot get anything but truckloads of awesomeness. Which is what You’ve got mail is. This dialogue from the last scene of the movie gives it the perfect ending.  

8. Forrest: Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get

Forrest Gump was prehaps the first non-romantic Hollywood movie I watched and loved. Like I said the awesomeness that is Tom Hanks, makes this line unforgettable. If I ever even read it anywhere, I can hear it in Forrest’s voice, and that is proof enough.  

9. Melvin: You make me want to be a better man.

More mush, more romance. Albeit a bit mature this time around. The Dude made me re-watch As Good as it Gets. The whole explanation that Melvin gives Carol about him taking his medicines since he met her, before delivering the punchline, is , well, amazing.   

10. Lucy: Peter once asked me when I fell in love with Jack. And I told him, “It was while you were sleeping.”

This one’s for old times sake. While you were sleeping for me is for Hollywood, what DDLJ is for Bollywood. My first romantic flick. And so, here it is.
And that’s it! I just realised that my biggest problem is that my favorite scenes in movies, do not have my favorite dialogues most of the time. I know, weird.
