Confessions of the dark kind

Before we start, I would want to make note of the fact that I am typing out this post at the end of a pretty tiring day at work, and almost 3 hours spent in a cab amidst horrible traffic, and all the metro construction, in a cab with a driver who had no clue as to where we were heading, hence causing me to stay awake and watch the dizzying traffic, while all I actually wanted was to keep the two coffees I had consumed down in my stomach, and trust me, it wasn’t easy.

But still, here I am. And before you say I seem to be fishing for acknowledgement every day and that is not done. let me clarify, that this is just for the record, so some day when I abuse my determination for never being around, I can refer to this and remember the good old days, when it did stand by me.

Today, while in the cab, I was listening to some brand new music which I had recently loaded on to my brand new phone. One song in particular was so catchy that I listened to it atleast 5 times on my way to, and thrice on my way from work (where I only stopped because the cab driver really needed directions). And it made me think of my sort of weird tastes, likes, favorites at different points of time in life. Here is a list.

Let me start with one which I have mentioned before, and am pretty much most ashamed of mentioning to the world. Yes, yes, I am talking about Chadrachur Singh. I honestly, genuinely found the guy adorable in ‘Tere mere Sapne’. Not so much in ‘Maachis’, but that was a hit, so I continued the admiration. Then came ‘Josh’, and other atrocities, where it was only because I did not want to be someone who went back on her word, that I still maintained that I liked him. The final blow was when my friends gifted me a HUGE poster of him, unfortunately with his hair slicked back, which was not something I liked at all. But still, he adorned the wall for a long time. Yes, I am the faithful kind.

Roadies. And Splitsvilla. Yes, I used to diligently watch these two shows, not missing even the auditions for the former show. I would then also go and discuss how unfair whose elimination, or what a b**** someone was being, with my fellow Reality show fan at work. I enjoyed every bit of it, the made up ‘tasks’, the scripted cat-fights, the very punjabbi mundas with their dole-shole, and a mouth they should just keep shut for their own good, and the supremely foul mouthed, Delhi-Chandigarh women, who always looked pretty darn good. I also liked Raghu-Rajiv’s dramatic abuses and insults, which were obviously fake. The fictional love and breakups in Splitsvilla. All of it. And I also refused to publicly accept that none of it was really reality. All this, when I openly I judge people who watch Big Boss. Hypocritical much?

Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed at all times were American dramas. I am not talking only Sitcoms. I am talking High-school dramas like ‘Gossip Girl’, and ‘Pretty Little Liars’. I am also talking ‘Desperate Housewives’. I am most definitely talking ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. I have followed quite a few of them into a couple of seasons before finally getting bored and giving up (not Grey’s, I still watch that). But give me reruns, and I am always ready for more. Here too, you see my awesome hypocritical side, as I cannot fathom just how people watch any Indian serials.

Then there is Karan Johar, Yash Chopra genre of movies. This I think I have mentioned below, but these are movies I definitely watch on the big screen, curse for all the stupidity, and then watch the reruns on TV. Infinite number of times. K3G and K2H2 top this list. Also, I did not think ‘Student of the Year’ was bad, at all. In fact, I loved the music. I love songs shot in scenic locations, and all the effort that goes in showing the  stark contrast between the WHITE snow and the RED chiffon saree. I also do not question the insanity of the women who agree to be so scantily dressed in such conditions, conveniently assuming their brain cells are pretty much dead to gauge or feel the cold.

Music. While we all know I love Bollywood music, I usually talk of Rehman, and most recently Amit Trivedi as the ones who keep my faith alive. But pretty honestly, there is dark side of me which absolutely loves item numbers, and ‘tapankuthu‘ songs. Like ‘Agal Bagal’. Like ‘Gandi Baat’. Like ‘Saari ke fall sa’ (yes kill me, now). ‘Jhalla Walla’, ‘Shiela ki jawani’, even ‘Chikni Chameli’, I love them all! And leave me alone in a room with such music playing, er, well, I am not sure you would want to be around.

Next in line is my guilt reading, and the winner here is Fashion Magazines. While I might not really come across as a fashionista if you see me, I love my dose of Vogue, Elle, Cosmo, even Femina. To know the ‘in’ colors this fall gives me a sense of satisfaction. To say ‘peplum’ skirts are in, makes me feel nice, though you will never see me even check out one at a shop, forget buy, or worse, wear it. Neon footwear, color blocking, brilliant red lipstick, I need to know what works, but of course, just for my own record, not for any action. Same for Fashion blogs, and which celeb wore what where and who dresses how well, because I am sure that is going to make my life so much more worth living (PLEASE sense the sarcasm).

Lastly, the trigger for this post. Yo Yo Honey Singh. Yessir. I think the guy’s music’s great! I mean, have you heard his songs? So very peppy, and catchy! Right from when I heard him first (Angrezi beat, Cocktail) I was hooked. Today, as I listened to his ‘Sunny Sunny’, with it’s crude (offensive for some even) lyrics, I just had to hear him again, and again. And I did. 8 times. So yes, judge me, but I think Yo Yo Honey Singh’s music is awesome. His name, well, you can’t have it all now, can you?

Now that you know so much more about me, and that too stuff I would think twice before revealing to anyone, let me call it a day. Even officially, there are just 36 minutes to go. But guess what. I made it.

Suggestions for tomorrow anyone?

  1. This is such a cute post (inspiring indeed). And it was very brave of you to come forward and list down all the secrets here on the blog. Personally, I like all the item numbers too nowadays especially gandi baat. Also, I cry every time I watch Karan Johar movies. In fact, I cried crazily while watching Aashiqui 2 (though its not a karan johar movie). If you enjoy sitcoms, I guess you will like Game of Thrones too (I know you didn’t ask for any suggestions).

      1. yes you should. Only if you don’t mind nudity and a hell lot of bloodshed and violence. This was the disclaimer I forgot to put in the earlier comment.

  2. Honey singh kitna sunte hain log! I was at a friend’s shaadi, and most of the songs were Honey Singh.. They were even doing reruns.. I mean there is only so many number of times you can play Din Saaany Saaany Saaaany ( :rolls: ) in the night..

Let me pop a Dark Lindor 😛 before I continue

I hope you will be much relaxed and feeling better by the time you wake. Hugs to Zo

    1. Arre Honesy Singh bechara kaafi catchy hai, give him credit na!
I love Saany Saany, so shoo!
And don’t do this to me 😦 Dark Lindor are my absolute favorites. The extra dark, black ones? Not blue wrapper. God I have told you this right?
And unfortunately a pretty bad night for me and Zo 😦 Both ok now! So thanks. Hugs will be passed on to Zo 😀

  3. I liked Chandrachur Singh in Tere Mere Sapne…I thought he was really cute…but not after that!

and oh my dark confession, I love reading books for tweens and teens. I am reading Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls by Meg Cabot which is actually about a 4th grader girl! so there we all have our dark confessions eh?

Fashion magazines – I have NEVER read them ever!

I am going to watch Koffee with Karan this week for sure 🙂

    1. Ooh, that’s an interesting one! I know lots of people who love Romance novels and I could never like them. I love chicklit 😀 but about older women (read the age I would be around at the time ;))
You please watch Koffee with Karan. Kjo is one the witties, smartest, classiest men I have seen 🙂

    1. Hehe, true that! there are some Himesh numbers which were my guilt listens too 😀
Somehow could NEVER watch Big Boss. And Honey Singh, poor guy, his parents named him that. You can kick him for the Yo Yo though!

  4. I love Yash Chopra and Karan Johar movies. My husband, unfortunately, I have to tie him down in shackles and make him watch it with me. It is worse than 3rd degree torture for him.

And fashion magazines, I have only flipped through them while waiting my turn at salons. I actually wouldn’t mind reading them properly, but I don’t have free access to any. And I don’t think they’re worth the price at which they’re sold.

    1. Same with the Dude. He will watch Aamir Khan movies, but these he will watch me with an incredulous expression which says ‘Seriously?’. And then if by any chance he catches me crying for a dramatic emotional scene, i am dead!
Fashion mags, at one point I would go buy a month later from a Book Bazaar where they would be sold in mint condition at 10 bucks a piece! Thats the best way to ever buy then 😀 As of now, it’s salons for me too 😦 But I love them!

  5. The songs are peppy, that’s the reason we (yeah I too) like them.. Even if they had different lyrics they would have been popular, I guess..
I hated Yo Yo Honey Singh when we shifted to Noida (that was the time I was introduced to him) only because every radio station here kept playing “brown rang” all the time.. But after listening to other songs, i would say that the guy can whip great music though same can’t be said about the lyrics that he writes..
